Daan Jacobs RS-2 Pre amplifier Classic Series

Yes you can, at RS Components. But just the volume pot by itself won't do the job. I removed all other pots (Treble, Bass & Balance) and in their place I fitted 50k resistors on the pc board. Only then I found the imaging to be perfect.

Daan Jacobs RS-2 Pre amplifier Classic Series

In the eighties I built my first one and I had exactly the same problem which annoyed me to no end. Beautiful sounding pre-amp but, that was quite annoying to say the least. Looking at the internal wiring I decided to simplify it. First things out were the Tone Defeat and Tape Monitoring...

    DIY Power Amplifier: PALADIN SM-150

Over the past few years, I?ve known the always excellent sound system of Ian in its variously evolving  iterations, but, in this particular instance let me only refer to his current amplification. His previous amplifier was painstakingly selected among'st some of the best commercially available...

    Lenco L70/B52 build

I do agree with previous statements that the plastic wheels sucks, but, try sourcing an "o-ring" with 5.5mm cross section and about 52mm inside diameter and fit it on. I have no doubts you'll be very pleasantly surprised with how it performs. Make sure to adjust the speed lever accordingly as...

One of a kind Aluminium billet volume knob

Geco should be able to give some direction about where to go for anodizing. We got some Linn parts done a while back

My homebrew relay based attenuator - proof of principle

Just one word of caution. Please ensure that the switching between the various relays translate into a "make before break" type, or else,... Puffff,... there goes your amp.

Squeezebox Linear power supply (must have upgrade)

I'm reasonably aware that not everyone has experienced this but I'm now somewhat happy that I'm not the only one, and although anything is possible, I still find it hard to imagine a transformer going on the blink after a short while, then unplugging the PSU from the SBT and a while later...

Squeezebox Linear power supply (must have upgrade)

To be quite honest, I suspect a factory faulty component, and most probably the one mounted on the heatsink. Geko: Could it be possible that perhaps it is operating at its extreme range, where some may just fail ?

Squeezebox Linear power supply (must have upgrade)

I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing similar things. On mine, I'd cut a rectangle directly above the heatsink (right from day one) allowing it to protrude slightly above the cover surface as it gets very hot. Even so, what I have experienced is that it plays for 15-30 minutes and then...

My homebrew relay based attenuator - proof of principle

As long as the required PCB's are single sided, a "pdf" of the printed circuit is all its needed for some local talent to make as many as needed, tinned and fully drilled as well. About the "a to d" options,... its really your call but I'm sure most would very much welcome complete units (plug...

My homebrew relay based attenuator - proof of principle

I am utterly amazed,? First with your power amp which, after humble beginnings turned out a real monster, and IMHO not at all shy of any of the biggest names in the industry. Then a pre amp which is already sounding extremely good without any of the common shortcomings often found in many...

Where in S.A can I buy an anti-static gun

Croak Audio (Hi-Phibian) sells the Moth RCM's On the matter regarding anti-static guns, there is nothing more irritating to me than lifting an LP off a Linn Sondek and the felt matt lifting off stuck onto the disc as it can often happen. One quick discharge from a Nagaoka gun and problem solved...

    Supersonic Monarch RPG80

If you are in Jo'burg, I believe RSE still has stacks of those oldies, and they don't know what to do with it.

    Vinyl Cafe

I second Hi-Phibian?s line of thought,? since for years I have also been in denial and washed my records by hand with all sorts of brushes, fluids, air drying  etc. etc. but the bottom line is and it will always be: being able to remove any microscopic debris and contaminants off the groove and...

    Loudspeaker Design And Technology

Jim Gore?s post basically said it all but left one small gap which I'm hoping to fill. The objective of High Fidelity is to emulate or better still, re-create a ?live? performance, yet it never happens irrespectively of price, and so we?re invariably left to personal preferences and further...
