    Leak tl 12’s

Thanks F_D for your support. I consider it a compliment coming from someone as esteemed and as well respected as you. I took great comfort of your support and original comments in your past posts. But I do empathise with Will on his dilemma. Some may consider me a heretic to have done this...

    Leak tl 12’s

Hi Will, With the help of a buddy, I did a full restoration of exactly the same SABC Leak TL12.1 back in 2013 and it is documented on this forum. Please do a search for 'Leak TL12.1 Valve amp journey' or Leak TL12.1 valve amp journey. The most agonizing dilemma was whether to sell it 'as is' or...

Any Info About this Valve Amp

Yikes, on closer look at the pics, the valve marking on the chassis calls for an ECC81, but the picture looks like a 12AX7 (Matsushita-Japanese) which is an ECC83. The photo is a bit smudged, so I maybe wrong. Please check. But the chassis is definitely from a Leak TL25 plus. Cheers, Norm

Any Info About this Valve Amp

Hi Audiofundi, It looks like someone has built a valve amp using the chassis of a Leak TL25 plus, which is a mono amp. The transformers are not original as far as I can see. But they have kept the same valve compliment as original (EF86, ECC81, 2x EL34 and GZ34) Google the Leak TL25 plus online...

What made you choose valves over solid state ?

 good one Curlycat, But serious, I need to cull my valve collection soon, besides I can't listen to them all. I will keep you in mind for 1 of my Dynacos. Take care, Norm.

What made you choose valves over solid state ?

Hello Curlycat, Thanks, but I'm no expert, just a music lover who likes my music reproduced well and prefers all things valves. I will seriously consider your offer on the Dynaco ST70...once my post count reaches that magical figure of 50 :2thumbs: Regards, Norm

What made you choose valves over solid state ?

OK, I'll bite. A bit of history first.....I grew up just as the valve era came to an end, so I had no idea what a valve was. I got caught up in the Brit hi-fi scenario :flame: and my 1st hi-fi was all second-hand Linn/Naim equipment. It was good but I noticed that I was always trying to put the...

    Quad II mono-block amplifier question

Hi Johan, As far as I can make out, both your valves are EF86's. One on the right is a Telefunken grey plate and the left one is a Russian made EF86. Regards, Norm

    Dahlquist DQ10 stacked array

Hi Marantz123, I agree with you that the Dahlquist DQ10 takes up a lot of floor space. One reason that was explained to me why they work on low wattage valve amps, is that when we took measurements on them, the impedance was very stable (hardly went below 6 ohms). If I'm not mistaken, I've read...

    Dahlquist DQ10 stacked array

Hi Marantz123, You and I seem to be cut from the same cloth as far as interest in audio goes...from classic valve amps and vintage speakers are concerned. I own 2 pairs of Dahlqust DQ10's, but I have never tried stacking them. These speakers were the most confusing for me as far as online and...

F_D, the European designation is E188CC, it's supposed to be a super duper version of E88CC. Hope that helps. Norm.

    Heater flash

Hi El Sid, Yup, as Family_Dog said, nothing to worry about. Apparently, only European valves like Mullard, Telefunken etc....does this flash. The American tubes do not have this characteristic. But as you say, it looks scary when it happens. Cheers, Norm.
