Is this the end of MQA?

For MQA to have survived, it needed to prove that it's claims of highest possible quality are true, and can stand up to proper scientific scrutiny. Alas, it hasn't. Why would anyone invest in a closed ecosystem when FLAC is free and lossless?

WeBuy Hi Fi - Cape Town

I've known him for many years. Him and his brother were heavily involved in the Audio Vision group with Hein back in the day. I still have a set of Missions I bought from his brother. Some people have good experiences with him, but I've found him rather unfriendly and a bad communicator unless...

    Johannesburg Fringe Hifi Experience 8 July 2023 - #JHBFHE

Valves handshakes are warm and smooth, while transistors can be strong and punchy! 🤣

One big sub vs multiple smaller subs…who will win?

I don't know... I say 3 subs. One left, one right and one centre. Wait, what about the rears... :D

When I read the viewing port glass was only certified to 1300m. 🤦🏼 What were they thinking?

    Johannesburg Fringe Hifi Experience 8 July 2023 - #JHBFHE

Would so love to be there! The Joburg guys are in for a treat no doubt! I know you will make the playlists available sometime... being able to listen to the music played will have to compensate for not being able to attend!

It's called opinions and it's the basis for the worst and best conversations. Just like a butt hole, we all have them. 🤣

    submarine lost at sea

Interesting read. According to this article, the 5 passengers in the sub wouldn't have suffered, with the implosion taking 20 milliseconds. https://www.timeslive.co.za/news/south-africa/2023-06-23-what-was-the-catastrophic-implosion-of-the-titan-submersible-an-expert-explains/ It also worth a...

    submarine lost at sea

Not sure how you evaluate the millions of cars produced a year, with all the safety evaluations like NCAP, against a potential madman that avoided solid good advise and recommendations, and just about all formal safety standards. Little bit of a difference crashing a car a sea-level (1013...

    submarine lost at sea

What irks me in the horrific story is the flagrant lack of respect for the governing bodies and certifications that have been put in place to ensure safety precisely to avoid these terrible incidences. The OceanGate CEO was a typical maverick pioneer who found every loophole in the book to...

Volswager 1,4 TSi engine - any issues?

Yes, older TSi's, pre 2019, were super and turbo charged. Newer variants of 1.0 and 1.4 are turbo only. Not sure why they dropped the supercharger. Possibly reliability and/or longevity.

    E-piphany

Slight correction here. HoloAudio offer a pre-amp as an optional extra only on the mid tier Spring 3 DAC model. With their flagship May DAC series it ain't an option.

Any new ways to get Qobuz in SA?

Agreed, I've done some intensive, but subjective, testing myself. My personal opinion is that MQA is very detrimental to the HF's when you don't use a MQA decoding DAC. For me, Qobuz is best, then Deezer, then Tidal (+MQA full decoding) and last Tidal (with software unfold, non-MQA dac). It's...

Any new ways to get Qobuz in SA?

Nope. In fact, they've come up with new ways to validate that you are residing in a supported territory. At first, a VPN conn when signing up was good enough, but now they validating that the credit card is issued in a supporting territory too. The easiest way I know is to get a family member or...

    Where to purchase replacement tweeters

Highly unlikely. That's what they have in stock in total worldwide. DigiKey ships on demand and won't keep local inventory due to near zero demand here.
