These things are great. The old education dept. used them as teaching pianos, that's why there are quite a few around. I've had a couple and kept one that's still in good nick. Great sounding ;-)
That graph has always given me pause - it just looks too good ;-)
they are great sounding and revealing speakers though.
That'd be interesting, will make a plan to do that sometime.
I do like focals, the amphions are something really special too. Hopefully I'll be able to get a pair in the next few months.
Those focal CMS range really are neat little speakers too.
Using the "pro" Rock MK2 in the lounge :-)
The control room has a pair of Focal SM9 and the obligatory NS-10s. Have my eye on the Amphion Two18 though, demod them for a couple of weeks and was blown away.
I get you about the hours, it's definitely not a 9-5 ;)
Mostly agree with this, especially regarding headphone amps on cheap interfaces, but as I mentioned earlier I believe there are a few exceptions to the rule.
I'm in the music biz so yes, that's what the gear is primarily used for, the Metric Halo stuff does the heavy lifting and the Hilo is being used purely for music playback in the lounge (connected to some Unity Audio Rock Mk2 monitors) at the moment 8)
I see you have a pic of the Massenburg...
I've always thought the multiface was a great sounding box.
My main interface these days is a Metric Halo LIO-8 which is a step up in terms of ADDA, but the old RME holds up pretty well.
I also use a Lynx Hilo for my "hifi" system
The ubiquitous focusrite scarletts & presonus things do not...
Oh and RME at 5-6k days are long past with the current exchange rate unless you're buying 2nd hand :-)
Which reminds me, the multiface I bought from you is still going strong!
I think budget converters be they "soundcards" or "hi-fi" will always have some compromise. There are a few notable exceptions that have remarkably good performance in the budget range, a few notables:
Motu 2408mk3 / 828mk2
ESI Juli@ (best value imo)
Edirol Ua-1000
Agreed, I've gone that route and made many mistakes as well as having learned a lot. At least enough to not have a totally glazed stare when talking to Jacob ;D
Anyway I see he's joined the forum now and seems open to letting us pick his brains a bit.
