Perhaps I can ask a follow-up question: If I were to connect a power amplifier to my c355 and have nothing running from the 355 apart from the power-amp, do I need to remove these jumpers - or can I connect the power amp to the "pre-out 1" connections, and leave the jumpers in place?

Many moons ago I encountered something similar in a vehicle setup where switching off would result in a "pop", if I recall this was due to a loose earthing wire on the main amp, not sure if it may be relevant to your setup.
