No you won't damage your AVR or the subs, it's just a case of the subs possibly clashing and making your bass output worse and/or uneven.

Noob question alert!! Could someone please tell me, what is the difference between bi-amping and bi-wiring?

As far as I know it's not recommended running 2 different subs together especially 2 with such different drivers (8" + 12"). Give it a try though and see how it sounds compared to your normal 7.1 setup.

Could you tell us, which MA speakers you are running and with which amp/AVR? I've been quite interested in the MA BX5 or BX6 and even more so now hearing you say that they are quite musical.

Hope somebody here can clarify this but wouldn't the quality of sound be a non-issue if your send the bitstream signal to your receiver?
