Probably less to do with the D/A conversion and more to do with it's ability to drive headphones, again, maybe a dodgy unit. I had the old v1.2 for a while, it wasn't bad at driving headphones but very underwhelming compared to similarly priced alternatives these days.

Don't know if the one I had was dodgy but the DF Red sounded like absolute 🐕💩

In my experience yes, there can be a very discernible difference, your mileage may vary.

You can order another cable from Sennheiser ZA and use that one to create the connection, plus side is that you can reduce the cable to a reasonable length like these Sennheiser Balanced Modded Cable for HD600, HD650 & HD660S

Considering they're Wireless ANC I'm like 99.999999% sure they're closed back, but the French do crazy things sometimes so not 100% I genuinely wouldn't mind an open-back wireless headphone if it was high end, maybe some day.

There's absolutely NO point in having the a MALE 4.4mm to SE adapter unless you have an SE headphone and BALanced amp that for some reason doesn't have a separate SE output. What IS useful is having a 4.4mm FEmale to 3.5mm or 6.5mm male adapter which is actually useful to use balanced...
