Pricing advice: Sennheiser HD 660 S

Left SA a while ago, so local off Amazon. Going to send them back though, not really all that impressed, it's got a similar tonal balance to the 650/6XX with a bit more energy and an uneven treble, even comes across as a little dull at times compared to the 660S, the bass is definitely extended...

Pricing advice: Sennheiser HD 660 S

Probably less to do with the D/A conversion and more to do with it's ability to drive headphones, again, maybe a dodgy unit. I had the old v1.2 for a while, it wasn't bad at driving headphones but very underwhelming compared to similarly priced alternatives these days.

Don't know if the one I had was dodgy but the DF Red sounded like absolute 🐕💩

    Downsizing?

I couldn't find red ones for the MG Pro but with the brown ones I can at least clearly know when I'm in Frankenstein mode.

    Downsizing?

I took a chance on some MG pads after reading this and received them today... gotta say I'm conflicted, there's a wider soundstage and less harshness in the top end but they seem to have taken a tiny bit of fun and dynamism out of them, I'll have to see what effect time has. Very interested to...

    Downsizing?

The 2nd biggest problem with the Elear was how the stock pads killed the midrange, using the Clear pads makes a world of difference but yes, then again they are $200 and difficult to source. The absolute biggest of course being that many of them broke, as did my Elear and Elex (same sheep...

Pricing advice: Sennheiser HD 660 S

660S owner over here giving my :2c: You hit diminishing returns pretty hard when you run these balanced (the SE out is not as good) from the popular Zen DAC which might cost, very roughly, half of the price of the headphone. Some might advocate the NFB-11 as a good price/performance option but I...

    Balanced wiring capable headphones

In my experience yes, there can be a very discernible difference, your mileage may vary.

    Balanced wiring capable headphones

You can order another cable from Sennheiser ZA and use that one to create the connection, plus side is that you can reduce the cable to a reasonable length like these Sennheiser Balanced Modded Cable for HD600, HD650 & HD660S

Focal releases new $800 Bluetooth headset

Considering they're Wireless ANC I'm like 99.999999% sure they're closed back, but the French do crazy things sometimes so not 100% I genuinely wouldn't mind an open-back wireless headphone if it was high end, maybe some day.

4.4mm headphone jack - anyone ever encountered one?

There's absolutely NO point in having the a MALE 4.4mm to SE adapter unless you have an SE headphone and BALanced amp that for some reason doesn't have a separate SE output. What IS useful is having a 4.4mm FEmale to 3.5mm or 6.5mm male adapter which is actually useful to use balanced...

Recommendations for replacement for Optoma Nuforce uDAC-3

+1 for Zen DAC, although it's out of budget, there is also the Zen Air DAC which is in the $100 cap.
