I had this issue on my Onkyo a while back.
In fact I still have this issue.
There are 2 known symptoms:
1. No sound over HDMI only picture
2. No picture only sound
Mine had no sound only picture. I the amp was on for about 30 minutes sound would come back.

Unfortunately this all depends on your insurer and their processes.
Had a great experience and a terrible one.
Great experience 5 to 6 days.
Terrible experience 4 weeks.
If under warranty I would take it to the dealers to get it fixed.
If out of warranty - open the box and have a look at the amplifier board.
Sometimes as easy as a blown fuse (could be an external fuse as well - have a look)
Smell for burnt components and have a look for blown capacitors.
Unfortunately most companies are taking shortcuts in order to drive up revenue.
Most things are built to last the warranty period nowadays.

There was a known issue over 3 or 4 generations of some of their receivers where HDMI would become hit and miss after some time. Sometimes audio loss and sometimes picture.
