I have a MiBox as well. I think its the Mi3 model Current issues with it: No Amazon Prime app available for android TV. No 5.1 sound from Netflix. Rest of it works perfect.

The rust caused by one rain, will just be surface rust. My recommendation would be to clean of most of the rust by hand, before trying to use a rust converter. That rust wont be stubborn, so a good old wirebrush and some rags would do. Then I would use a etching / rust converter type primer...
