Covers off. At very low volumes sounds better in my opinion . Can hear difference in clarity between on and of at low volumes. And of course like has been mentioned it pleases the eye. I remove mine when listening and remount them afterwards, as nasty fingers thinking that they are cleaning...

+1 FOR Asus Xonar U7 Also make use of one for my laptop and it surpasses the built in sound card by a mile! Also happy with headphone amplifier.

Go to control panel > hardware and sound > sound > set HDMI as default playback device (this for win 7)

Yes the 1.5TB drives were prone to giving problems. Perhaps I'm just lucky, I use my pc a lot and have never had a drive fail on me. Although I have broken a 80GB back in the day due to user error. (sleeved my power supply and swapped around the yellow and other wire and it died a tragic death)

I went on a mid week vacation during the outage, being without power is a major problem. Can't even listen to music plus work turns into: "how to manage without power management"

I have no idea hoe good the 685's s2 are. One dealer told me they are much better and that I should upgrade from 685 to 685 s2. Another told me that they are better but not worth upgrading to, to much of a sideways step. (I like to believe this guy, he seemed more knowledgeable in general...

My opinion: My friend has yamaha hs07 and I have B&W 685. The yamaha does sound good but in a different way, they make very little bas and provide accurate sound. Whereas my B&W' colours the music in a manner I like very much with some bas. No monitors for me, they sound good but less...

If you don't want to spend a lot, the soundmagic e10's are very good. They can  be purchased from the gadget shop for about R500.
