General Discussion / Re: The reality of Fibre Speeds
« Last post by blizzard on Today at 01:56:43 AM »
The comments on the WIFI are mostly bullcrap and an outdated outlook.
Yes by all means use a hardwired lan connection to pinpoint your problem, but do not underestimate the WIFI of today.

That Asus router the OP is using, is more than capable! As for the Mikrotik router, my opinion is that it's overkill for household applications. Most commercially available good quality routers will offer you 100 -600 mbps if setup right. Far beyond the 100 the OP is looking for.

I run 60mbps LTE with a 20Db Yagi High Gain directional antenna on WIFI for all my high rez  music  and AV streaming (even 4k video ) with no problems at all .
How about a 40 terminal POS point of sale system network with zero packet loss over a three year period.!
The LAN comments above makes me think of the old ballie still clinging to his Castrol sae 40w monograde oil which must be better because it's "lekker dik" for exstra protection  :ROFLMAO:

Nothing wrong with WIFI if installed correctly and provisions made for low signal areas by using repeaters(wifi extenders) or access points for larger areas.
On another point above , WIFI extenders if setup correctly have no problem with devices in your area. Device will always lock onto the strongest signal location, or as an alternative, assign your extender it's own ssid and password and make it a saved network (home network) on your devices  ;)
99% I put my money on the fault being outside the OP'S house with the Fibre connection. Please take note that I opted for LTE for a reason  ;)
Reason: TIA This is Africa

I think your post should be moderated. Don't think you will speak to me that way and get away with it!!!

Ditto to what Morne said. Call a spade a spade and it is what it is. The OP was actually only referring to the buying power of our currency!
No RSA bashing from what I read

General Discussion / Re: Valve Pre-Amp Questions and Recommendation

Hi-Phibian, that was cheeky :) But deserved. Audiolab 8200MB's are class AB - my bad @hope.

Ha. Was never meant about the A AB and all that.  The marketing blurb always carefully words that to be true but confusing.

No no.  Valve amplifiers lie.  Sweet lies.  Lies we love but lies none the less.

I noticed your post number is 1, hence I assume you're new.
We've just been down this "South African Bashing" road a few weeks ago and it's disappointing to see that your post open's with this.

If you think that 3rd worlder's can spend a few hundred thousand rands (or tens of thousands of dollars) on Audio Equipment, than I shudder to think how much the "1st world" spends.

Suggest moderating your disparaging implications.

I think your post should be moderated. Don't think you will speak to me that way and get away with it!!!

Man!

Absolutely gorgeous!

I hope they sound as good as they look, from other posts of people who've made big sealed subs, they should be thunderous.  >:D

Looking forward to hear how they perform.

It's month to month, you can anyway change it at anytime in client zone. Data is not my issue, speed is. And I don't see how givng me more data for less money will increase my speed. But I will look into the shaping policy of 'pure' fibre vs their capped ushaped products, but like I said I have never a seen any uncapped offerering from any ISP without shaping.

There is no shaping on the pure fibre packages.
