General Discussion / Re: HDMI, A strangely unpopular feature of AVR
« Last post by Steerpike on Today at 01:31:30 AM »
HDMI is an engineering abomination, crappy "technology" forced upon manufacturers by Hollywood et al to get their copy protection in everywhere.

I think a predominant cause of failure is poor quality switched mode power supplies that appear in so many items. Even the components that should be good may use an OEM power supply made in China at lowest possible performance and cost. Unless hard earthed, such appliances tend to float up to 100v or even higher, and take everything connected to them up to that potential too.

And devices that go into "standby" are not electrically off, the power supply still runs. So ideally, switch off at the wall, and wait a full minute or more for capacitors to discharge before making or unmaking any connections.

To be honest, Yamaha wouldn't have even made the long list let alone the shortlist.

I reckon this goes for me too

Polish, as in a very fine abrasive, like fine compound for finishing after spraypainting. What we used vack in the day because it was all we had / all we could get.   Whatever residue might be left, clean it off with alcohol.
However, this Chord stuff, like Deoxit, is not abrasive, and it's like Deoxit Gold, supposed to be a conductive filler film.  Most people/users of Deoxit just use the cleaner.

Tubesandmore have these.  I might be bringing in a few others (6/12SL7's)  in a few weeks.  If you don't get sorted it may be an option to add etc.  Not sure where you're situated
