Title: Anyone know who the official distributors are for APC?
Post by: Rotten Johnny on June 05, 2011, 06:32:19 PM
I need a replacement battery for my Smart UPS 1500 - no way I write to my backup arrays without an active UPS in train.

Surely they use standard alarm batteries? Many use the 12V 7A/h type, have you had a look? Communica carries a wide range suitable for most UPSs

We use 12v 9A/Hr batteries - same size as the 7A/Hr ones but 30% higher capacity.

IIRC the Smart-UPS 1500 uses the so-called "golf cart" batteries which are 17 Ah. I'd stick with Panasonic, CSB or Yuasa. They are almost half the price if you don't buy the made-up APC packs, the only difference is that you need to disconnect the series fuse and wiring assembly / harness from the old batts and transfer it to the new ones, and maybe stick the two batts together with double-sided tape.

You could also try Current Automation (www.rectifier.co.za), they have lots of options for batts.

You could also try www.phdpowerhouse.co.za. They have loads of battery types at excellent prices.
