Title: Wolla’s ‘Bel Canto’ E-One DIY Audio Spectrum LED Display
Post by: Wolla on May 15, 2019, 06:00:08 PM
OK, I have just received an Audio Specrum LED Display kit, compliments of Ebay. I also bought a spare E-One faceplate from @Hi-Phibian albeit in anodized black.

I like LED’s so I thought I’d try my hand at making a suitable enclosure that will resemble a Bel Canto E-One component, housing the LED Display unit, also in green LEDs like my current DAC3vb.

This is what I currently have:

And this is what I have in mind:

Will update as I progress.

Here is where I got the LED kit: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F332744551370 (https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F332744551370)
Must say it got here in very good time, basically 3 weeks.

Thanks Jason, yes I need a piece of dark tinted perspex if possible. Maybe another member has some spare. I have 2mm clear extruded perspex, but not dark tinted. Looks like Perspex companies only sell full sheets at a time.

Add a layer of window tint on the inside to shade darker...

Or chase signage companies for an off cut.

Power consumption is pretty good at just over .1A using a 5V powerbank.

It only goes up with a few mA if I push the brightness up. Looks like the engine itself uses almost the whole 100mA. Even if it goes into sleep mode it still consumes 96mA+. Will build in a switch in the PS. Good news is that it will keep the Powerbank from shutting down.

It looks very nice Wolla. Good soldering skills there
Try Maizey's plastics - closest branch to you would be Paarden Eiland. They cut plexiglass, not sure if they will have anything such as smoked plexi.

Thanks Felix, I actually got the clear perspex from Maizey's but they normally sell you a sheet when I ordered straight online. Will call them, maybe they have some off-cuts.

I have never ordered online, but walking in they have cut every time for me in the past. Good luck.

If you are not in a hurry, I can pop in there and ask, provided you give me a product code.

Thanks @Curlycat for your kind offer.

I’ve ordered a roll of tint film as per @Jason Willemse suggestion, since I already have lots of clear Perspex.

Hopefully it will work OK, else I will be forced to get the genuine stuff.

Nice!

I might still have a piece of tinted perspex somewhere in the garage. Its a black purple tint however. As soon as I have a chance, I'll check

Thanks Phillip for your kind offer. I may take you up on it if the tint film does not work as intended.  :mates:

Jip, the cut to size @Wolla . I bought some 8mm from them when i did my DAC build and they cut it to size for me. Just inspect the piece when you get it from them for marks. They had to re-cut mine after it had marks on it.
