Any new products for 2016 ?

Hi Jozua! Forgive the delay in answering, just had to go to the mountains for a few days to clear my head. Signal not so good around here, back just after Jan 2nd.

And you need what from this workshop? Do tell and I make...

Actually been sucking on the old thumb some and yes, there is a "new" Genesis 21st Anniversary which has now been running with two customers already, with a 3rd almost done. These three are actually just modifications to the standard units, with the "real" release only planned for around March 2016. Upgrade includes reduction in valve count, better application of the balanced volume control, reduction in noise etc...

Coinciding with this, a brand new integrated loosely based on a Gen Pre and Black Widow power @ 300/channel at 8 ohm with true doubling to 600 into 4 ohm. Many guys have space constraints and prefer a one box solution. Requests have been made.

There might be one more, but going to be very busy next year so shall see about that.

I second that  :notworthy:
A nice valve hybrid pre\headphone amplifier could be very very interesting !!!!

Ahem, indeed. And one of those guys is waiting patiently, as always ;D

I have good reason to believe that this will be a true " beast from the underworld ".

How would this go down, your input please.

I am thinking (finally) about doing a newer version of the Exclamé with a built in MC/MM valve/SS hybrid phono stage as well. It MIGHT be possibly to fit a module to the existing Ex's out there too. First some calcs and measurements though, also a thing about fitting it physically  :nutter:

Watch this space for info as the plot thickens. Could be a couple of months though as there is no gap on the horizon yet.

And OF COURSE it is going to be more expensive  :whistler: :whistler:

That would probably put the Exclame as the best all-rounder integrated out there.

Would be an interesting option as dumping the cost of box connectors powersupply etc in to an integrated box will allow a sexy circuit for a relatively modest cost.  Ie phono exclame less cost of exclame will be a small cost for the possible phono performance of bought as a separate unit.

Heard the Exclaim for the first time this morning on speakers that I've listened to on various amps. The Paradigms have never sounded so good before!

Listening to the amp at its new home confirmed it again. Made me realise that even buying a new Exclaim, should it be possible again, would be good value for money and a worthwhile audio investment for me to save for. The phono stage option makes it even more tempting, less boxes and more space.

The only thing I'm wondering about is whether it would be possible to include a balanced output option on the Exclaim as well? Listening to it I could not help to think that an amp sounding this good should have balanced outputs as well. That is my only  :2c: to an otherwise near perfect integrated amp.

Should be balanced inputs and Exclamé!

Thats where the Predator comes in, less the phono.
I would go as far as to say that an Exclame with only a MM is the way to get good amplification, good build quality and higher than average entry into simple analogue.

The moment you want to go to higher amplification, Predator with it's balanced inputs. From here on you get the Whisper (big and bold on my shopping list) for your analogue.

Being the new owner of an older Exclame I would be very interested in getting a phonostage fitted to it. It really is very good amplifier and the phono would be the cherry on top.

Adding balanced inputs doubles the (valve) pre amp content if I understand right.

Adding solid state MC step up to MM may be a relatively minor cost increase.  Especially if settings are hard wired inside on the pcb and using switches etc.

In truth I think VA would need to either add figures or % of cost for MM and MC add ins to make any of this more than guess work.

Hi Schalk,

Long time no see... (all my fault)

A suggestion re planned new integrated:

Given that you've labelled your phono stage "Whisper", how about naming the new integrated "Bellow" or "Shout"? :)

Glad to see you're still beavering away (me too - retired in 2011, turned 70 10 days ago, and have only had a total of 6 months as unemployed since March 2011).

I spoke to Gert(rude) earlier today and asked him to provide me with your contact number as Micro$oft and their Win10 update successfully screwed up my Outlook contact details.

When he gets 'round to it, I'll give you a call.

All the best for 2016

Dave

It sure is, a touch of the old whip and a small layout issue rectified and it shall be available. One month from now.
The one at the show had a small mod done to the underside of the board to sort a small problem.
It worked beautifully and no one was any wiser as to the mod being there  :whistler:

Hi Schalk

I was going to do this in PM but thought other forumites might add their inputs as well. Two features that would be quite desirable for me are the following:

1 - AV bypass: having one input with unity gain to be able to run in a hybrid stereo/ AV system. Yes I know the purists will say "there be dragons" but I can see a future need for this. Ideally switchable but hat would not be a deal breaker for me.  Rather one dedicated AV bypass than none.

2 - remote control through a mini jack: I have a LAN based remote control system to use phone/tablet. Can mount a flasher unit to replicate the IR remote, but can also connect directly using cable. Works really well with my AV amp.  The cable connection is obviously neater. I have no idea hat this entails though......

Any chance of adding these features on the new Exclame?
Thanks
Arthur

Since the focus group is out and about, I'd agree on a phono stage for the Exclame (and possibly the Predator?), and a SA flag effect on the faceplate would be a nice limited edition (or a Union Jack  :EGrin:)

I was obviously being tongue in cheek about the faceplate, the phono stage had already been suggested.  And I reckon that as the electronics wizard he is, he didn't go to Hogwarts as he already graduated!

Wow,special order time!  :rubhands:
On top of the simple requests by ArtiB,I'd like the ff:

1. 2x Fully Balanced lines.
2. Sub input
3.Built-in MM/MC phono,with variable load settings
4.A two tone,Genesis style faceplate, with my name in brushed Platinum on the top RH corner.
Any other 'extras',like cryo valves thrown in,would be a nice gesture!  ;)
And pleease go easy on the price?

 :point:  :point:
Ja Dewald, lykmy party ouens dink Schalk toer d wereld vol en bou so een 'ampie' 'n maand, net omdat hy hou van d nice 'hobby'!  :nutter:

No offense,Arthur, but the man is incredibly busy,ALL the time, especially Mon- Sun...
But yes,I have to agree that a built-in phono wld off course be great!

Thanks Willem, Thanks Guys, all of you.

It takes a while to get something like this sorted properly, does not just happen on a whim. It takes toil and experiment. Happily I can say this unit has now prompted me to take a wide eyed look at the Gen Pre again. And so begins the next upgrade which actually is almost ready, just a matter of populating the first board. A good klap here and there and the ALL NEW Gen Pre shall give its first plaintive cry...

If the Exclame has gone to 150W, is there room for another entry-level "My First VA"? a la 802? Or maybe a chip-amp or The Plankie?

Just putting that out there.

Hi you guys,

Thank ye all etc etc... Been a long time waking up from Munich and I am getting there. All aches and pains and ailments I brought with from the show. Now I wake up under a blanket of missed calls, guys tapping feet, outstanding work and it is winter. And this blanket has no warmth under it. So I go to the doc today, and he says NO WORK, feeds me a huge drip with pimp me up stuff which is said to improve my general run down state to something more workable. Ushers me off for ECG, Scan and lung function test tomorrow. And I do not even smoke  :please:

Anyhow, this probably means I have to pass scrutiny for a couple of days and start full time next week. I maintain I only have the flu, am terribly unfit and probably just want to lie low a bit with a wee dram once in a while to ease me into a state of well being...

There is a little something like a VA Kit plankie coming late this year. Save up some money and treat yourself like a King for the Christmas holidays. It should be easy enough for a grade 6 pupil so you guys should have no problem at all. I am just finishing the Exclamé 150 with phono first before doing this (BWS  :teach:  :-X ;D). The headphone amp is something special and not to be rushed.

I'll do some posting about the Show over the weekend, just too worn out here. Maybe the doc's muti works? hope so

Cheers
Spyder

Welcome back Oom,

Please don't go jogging on the road - dangerous, ineffective and damaging to your health. Please read this article if you have a spare moment: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2017/05/27/get-fit-in-six-minutes-per-week.aspx

Excerpt: Three Minutes of HIIT Is as Effective as 150 Minutes of Moderate Exercise

A 2016 study1 involving three groups of exercising men — a control group, a group doing sprint interval training and a group doing moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) — underscored the value of HIIT.

After 12 weeks of workouts, the researchers concluded that three minutes of interval sprints per week (totaling 30 minutes in the gym) was as effective as 150 minutes of MICT, improving insulin sensitivity, cardiorespiratory fitness and the mitochondrial content in skeletal muscle to the same extent.

HIIT also triggers mitochondrial biogenesis,2 which is important for longevity. By reversing age-associated declines in mitochondrial mass, you effectively slow down the aging process. As you’ll see later, this even includes some of the more visible signs of aging. As explained in my new book, “Fat for Fuel,” because mitochondrial dysfunction seems to be at the core of most chronic disease, activities like HIIT that support mitochondrial biogenesis will strengthen your body and help it fight the ravages of time.

Just be sure to allow ample recovery time between workout sessions because as intensity increases, frequency needs to diminish. Doing HIIT more than three times a week can be counterproductive.

Intensity Is the Key

The key that opens the proverbial door to all of HIIT’s health benefits is to make sure the intensity is high enough. McMaster University exercise physiologist Martin Gibala, who has led many HIIT studies, describe the intensity required as “sprinting from danger-kind of intensity.”

In other words, you need to give it all you’ve got, but only for about 30 seconds, repeated four to six times with a minute or so recovery time in between sprints. Your actual exertion time ends up totaling just two to three minutes per workout session.

In one HIIT study, participants increased their endurance capacity by 50 percent on this kind of program. Typically, your VO2 max will improve by 10 to 15 percent in as little as a few weeks. Blood pressure and body composition also typically improves in that short amount of time.

The improvement in VO2 max is largely dependent on the adaptation of your mitochondria. They’re what allows your body to process greater amounts of oxygen, resulting in greater energy production and thus power, strength and endurance.

Not only does HIIT boost the number of mitochondria in your cells, it also improves their function and replaces old, worn-out mitochondria with new, better-functioning ones. Tests reveal subjects were able to increase mitochondrial function by 30 percent in as little as one month of HIIT.

While the above information represents the current conventional view on the value of intense exercise, I have learned that it needs a radical revision to optimize long-term health.

A far wiser approach would be less intense exercise more regularly. I describe my current view on intense exercise in the last section, and have a video to expand on it. Rather than going all-out two to three times a week, it is far more rational to do it two to three times every day for three minutes. I am convinced that spreading the exercise out over time is more beneficial.

Welcome back.

We missed you. Is it possible to add this option to my preditor, Exclamé 150 with phono first .

Hi Guys, finally picking up the tools again and turning up the wicks of my workshop lamps. Only thing now still troubling us here is my wife's brother Theo who is sliding away into a coma. We expect the end soon.

Then you all may call me bad names and vrot manufacturer or whatever you will. I'll take it on the chin and come out delivering what has been on order for so long. Forgive my absence here please, have taken a jab or two to try pick up my mood by spouting some stupid humor on some other threads these past few days. If I ruffled a feather or two, well thats OK I guess, 'cos feathers are meant to be ruffled.

Vinylhead (bless your Vancouver Soul), Rockit from the launch pad of JHB, and of course the Nirvana guy from Cloud 69... thank you for your support during these times. I'll communicate soon with you guys, sometime after what lies ahead this weekend or next week.

Bless you all and thanks for using VA, regardless of the fact that I might be a bit quirky at times.

Sorry to hear about the unpleasant times you are experiencing Schalk. One must be thankful for the happy times spent together when all was well.
