Title: How to post pictures on AVForums South Africa
Post by: vdL on October 07, 2013, 01:33:41 PM
ADMIN NOTE:

Since Photobucket has now decided to discontinue hot-linking from its Servers, please use postimage.org (http://postimage.org) instead - hosting and hot-linking is free. The method described herein remains much the same.

---

So I made a small little guide for posting pictures.

You can get it here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4sdskqr0xot3kg1/How%20to%20post%20picures%20to%20forum.pdf

Now, no excuses!

I've stickied this and unstickied the old one (which I previously butchered to make more sense following the fall of uploads.co.za). Previous one can be found here http://www.avforums.co.za/index.php/topic,16676.0.html (http://www.avforums.co.za/index.php/topic,16676.0.html)

Thanks vdL

Easiest way using photobucket is to view your uploaded image and click on the last link/IMG as indicated with the red arrow.

It should then show you "copied' and simply right click and paste in your "post reply" .

Hit the preview before posting to see if your image linked correctly and then post.

Has your bank not perhaps issued you with another credit card since you originally registered with them.  (done for security purposes every X number of years)
If yes, then the 3-digit numeric on the back of the card will be different from the original card  (called something like a "CVN" number,  I can't recall the exact terminology).
That may very well be why they don't recognize you full details ?    It happened to me.

why not just use a free service like photobucket?

i have used them for years and no issues so far unless the entire internet goes down and then you wont have need for their services anyway  ;)

Dear ImageShack user,

Our system will not allow there to be two simultaneous subscriptions on the account. The current subscription first needs to expire, your images will be safe and will continue to be hosted. Once the new subscription is activated the premium features of the site will be unlocked again.

I apologize for any confusion and inconvenience this may have caused for you. If you have any questions or need further assistance please let me know.

Best regards,

Peter
This is to good to be true. You cannot renew a subscription in advance.Sorry we wasted 2 hours of your time.

naughty I would but hate adverts.

Adblock!! (available on all browsers and even on Android you can install a version that blocks ads system wide)
Works like a charm on photobucket, I don't see a single ad when I'm on there  :dop:

As a side note for posting pics you've found in other webpages:

How do you post a pic lifted from a website?

Here's an example of a pic taken from Amazon

Firefox on pc (can normally do something similar with any browser, on iOS and Android if you hold your finger on a pic in a webpage a little menu normally pops up and one of the options is copy image, that copies the images web address, which is what you need), view the image you want on on the website(full size/fullscreen if its one of those funny zoom images), right click on image "Copy image location", come back to your ad listing press the little insert image Mona Lisa icon, paste copied image path.

The image path for the image of the NAD dac from Amazon that I inserted looks like this:
And that gets inserted between the code that you are given after pressing the "insert image" mona lisa icon.

Have found Photobucket terribly slow the past week.  Typically 3 or 4 mins to get to the "Upload" page

So now using Imgur photo sharing.  Loads immediately and seems to offer a similar service to Photobucket

Does Imgur allow uploading and linking to high res images?

Photo bucket blocked that feature a while back and resizes the image if it's over 1024 now . Have noticed its been slow lately but still useable for me

Photobucket recently changed their terms and conditions. They now want $400 per year for third party hosting. If you do not pay up this what your images look like.

The interwebs is hoogs de bliksem in about this. At least the originals are still availabe for you to download.

How did you move? Pic by pic?

Apologies for the late response, but no, one is able to save the entire folder so no need to do it one by one.
Can't remember exactly how I did it, and can't check now because I no longer have an account..!
Wasn't difficult though, even for a technical pygmy like myself.  ;D

If I remember correctly, you can not post any pictures from Photobucket to any other 3rd party site.
You need to pay a certain amount to be able to that.

If you click on Album there's an option under Actions to Download Album, but it doesn't work (for me).

Thanks very much Mr C
It's no biggie. I now have Postimage but it would have been nice to save/download all my Photofucket stuff and upload it to Postimage.
I could of course do it 1 by 1 but can't be arsed.

Having done a quick test using https://imgur.com works 100%.
All I did need to do was add ".jpg" to the end of the url for an image.

Yes, it must be URL of a file - the filename including the filename extension like .JPG or .PNG

If the image file URL works in your web browser [as in new tab/window] then it will work on the forum (if it is a supported image type.)
