I recently replaced my plasma stand, only to find that now I've got nowhere to place my center speaker, since it's 140mm high while the tv's bezel on the inside is 60mm from the stand.

My initial idea was to use the tv's VESA mounting and build a stand from 2 piece aluminum square tubing going parallel to the top of the tv, another 2 piece horizontal (from the back of the tv towards the wall) on top of the vertical tubes with 1 or 2 braces. (I didn't want to put up a shelf or drill into the wall.)

I decided to google for some ideas and saw this, which was more-or-less what I had in mind (sorry for the poster's original pic).

Then I saw something else. Well, here is my result:

Basically what I used was:
1x 1830mm Double Slot Wallband R75.99 http://www.gelmar.co.za/shelving-and-brackets/wall-bands/wallband-wallband-system-1830mm Much too long, but rather safe than revisit the store. I've got a 60" tv and the 1220mm would have been sufficient
2x 220mm Double Slot Bracket    R27.98 http://www.gelmar.co.za/shelving-and-brackets/wall-bands/double-slot-bracket-220mm-wall-storage
4x M6 screws
4x wood screws
400mmx225mm MDF (which I had)
Rust-Oleum black spray paint (also had some)

I don't think it's necessary to describe what to do with the above.

I will point out a couple of things:
- I opted for the double slot system due to sturdiness of the brackets - very little movement. If you secure the shelve, the single slot system would work just as well taking the cost down from R100 to maybe R40 (they have in the store, but not on the website)
- The pre-drilled holes in the wall bands I used is unfortunately approx 190mm, so new holes need to be drilled
- The M6 screws I had were too short, so I turned the wall band with the slotted area towards the back of the TV
- Take a look at the layout of the back of the tv. There are sections that's more sunken and other areas that are raised. The latter is the problem. To prevent re-cutting, keep this in mind. (see photo below)
- Also, cut the bands shorter than the tv, especially when using MDF. The speaker can rest against the tv bezel
- Lastly, for the tweeters' directional sound, I've re-used common rubber door stops to raise the back of the speaker (instead of the front as with my previous plasma stand)

I hope this helps someone!
