I've seen a number of post on this forum of people saying AV amps can't match stereo amps and the reasons provided generally make sense and I tend to agree with them. But what happens when space/cash/ease of use is an issue and you want to listen to good stereo within your constraints.

Imagine the typical scenario - guy buys AV amp and 5.1 speaker set: 2x 150w floor standers, 1x 70w center and 2x 70w surrounds and 1x sub. His amp is 5x100w = 500w (ignore the under powered power supply for a moment). Surely say 2x150w and 3x65w is better? Total 495w - a little less power, but much more useful. Especially if a bit of effort was put into keeping the stereo path clean.

It begs the question are there any AV amps out there the are stereo friendly? Something that is delvers more in the main channels used for stereo. The Denon/Marantz and Onkyo/Pioneer folks that seem to have the bulk of the market and all just slam increasing numbers of same amps of the gradually increasing power as they go up the AV product range. Is there anyone in that market space that does differently?
