Still a way off from high-speed platter drives, in fact still about double the price. However, Amazon?s October price for a Samsung EVO 4Tb SSD was $459, the same drive is $349 today (but stock is low).
With 1/10th of the power usage, no moving parts and of course blazing speed, SSDs transform any computer, giving faster operation, longer battery useage for laptops
But would this innovation result in better digital music reproduction? The speed is unimportant since the transfer of music data are relatively slow. Will the absence of a platter and stepper motor with no flying head to cause vibration result in a ?purer? signal?
Or is this just wishful thinking?
