Best places to source RAM - JHB area
« on: June 01, 2011, 12:59:33 PM »
I need to replace some DDR2 RAM (Corsair XMS2-6400 4-4-4-12) and get another 4GB of DDR3 RAM for my two Asus Workstation boards.   Happy to go with Kinsgton, a little reluctant to get more Corsair given two chips have proven faulty.  Which are the best stores (brick & mortar or online) to enquire?

I tend to avoid the Brick & Mortar shops. These are the online guys I've used in the past:

www.prophecy.co.za
www.rebeltech.co.za
www.sybaritic.co.za

I find http://www.jump.co.za quite useful when looking for specific items.

wootware.co.za is around the corner from us here in somerset west. The friendliest of guys, professional setup and very good prices too. They offered to do a swap out on a motherboard for me even though it wasn't supplied by them, just to make it more convenient for me!

PC International also has quite a good name up here in Jhb. Based in Randburg.

Somerset West is THE BEST!!!

Nice to hear good stuff about wootware. I like the name - sort of expect them to sell footwear.  :D
I'm planning on buying some RAM from them and maybe a SSD.

their prices are good, but i found ram cheaper at matrix computers - based all over the country, shop around - see what you find
HT FRONT 7.1 - Yamaha767, Klipsch R15m, B&W302 rear, yamaha satellites surrounds.
ZONE2 - Polk tsx110b
HT Bedroom 6.1- Onkyo 700e, SONY SS-CN3 Centre, AE Compact 1 Fronts, yamaha satellites rears.

Ended up getting the RAM directly from Rectron.  Matrix stores strike me as stocking the realy cheap and nasty end of just about everything PC related.  On the one occasion I did buy something from them (a card reader) it was real cheap and nasty and had to be taken back cause it wouldnt work reliably. To be fair I've never tried buying anything like a branded mobo or RAM from them so I've no idea whether they'd be in a position to supply.

How would you rate these companies? I'm about to buy some stuff from Rebeltech.

I've ordered from all of them and have had no issues at all. Most of my purchases were from Rebeltech, great bunch of guys.

Why are there no online computer stores that accept payment by credit card?
Even among those that say they do.
Some might... but then make it impossible eg: only for amounts less than R1500... or you have to pay in USD... or they charge 10% more than the other stores.

There are many online stores that sell other stuff with good prices, good service and accept credit card at no additional charge.
Grrrrrr  >:(

Credit card is very risky for small business as you can get shot down in a heartbeat. Happened to Renegade eXpress, the best online shop in SA around 2004.

In your case you could do an EFT using your credit card...
