Done the Predator. Running high efficiency, so do not need mega watts. New or used, am seriously looking at this,

Hi Alan, I get you're looking for a moderately powered pure valve amp. I'm sure there will (and have been) some very serious suggestions, but FWIW, Ryan really loved that Cayin, and Steve who bought it, is just as happy with it. I would have bought it from Ryan, had it not been for the cost of the valves - I listen A LOT.

So maybe follow your intuition, if nothing else pops out..?  :cleansound:

Gentlemen thank you so much for your valuable input thus far! It is such a tough choice! The amp it will be replacing is an ATC SPA2-150 which is a brilliant amp. Wouldn't mind a '45 valve amp

:giggle: I knew the 45 SET sound would ingrain itself into your aural memory. Some people just take longer........

i was fortunate to end up with a simply 2 anniversary edition. absolutely love it.
highly recommended if you can live with the relatively modest output.

@Phase The Cayin CS55a is a stunning stunning amp and giant killer.

You will absolutely love it in Triode Mode which is perfect for high efficient speakers. One of my biggest regrets selling it!!  :sd: plus it's easy to roll some EL34 tubes if you don't like the KT88.

There is another Cayin on my future wish list..

If you supply the 45's, I'll build you and SET for that budget. My 2A3 design has travelled to Hong Kong and now Whales. According to client the sound is better than other 2A3's he's heard.

On a tight budget (aren't we all?) I would look at secondhand options.  For a new amp, consider one of the MarsAmps. A kit will get you even more music for your bucks, but he offers fully assembled options too in your price range.  Remember, the key components in valve amps are their power and output transformers.  And consider amps with widely available valves, esp EL84 and EL34.
