OK I've had it with home recording people that can't tell you anything but that they swear by this and this headphone...

I would like to buy headphones that will mostly be used for tracking the recording of whatever. I have learnt that this one should rather be a closed headphone, to isolate from the noise outside of the recording rig a bit... I appreciate that if I were to mix, I should probably use open-back hi-fi headphones... but i have spikka's for that. Sure I will use them to listen to music too... but probably not so much. I also think they should be quite detailed so that one can hear if you are recording something other than your intended source.

First things first - Frequency Response... should I be aiming for a reverse Fletcher Munson curve? That it seems most headphones have - well up to 10 kHz in any case - such as the Shure SR 440 / 840 -  Or should one go to Beyerdynamic DT 660 / 440 or Sennheiser 280 / 380 Pro - which is apparently quite neutral / or flat FR - well at least in the middle  ::). I ask because if you have the reverse FM curve - you should naturally tend to record more flat, however the speakers don't really do reverse FM curves, so is this a good thing?

SO some real info from you knowledgeables about what makes a good monitoring headphone would be great...

I get that FR is not the be-all and end-all of good sound, but for accurate monitoring what do you aim for...
