So Raru sent me a site-wide discount coupon, and while trying to think of what to buy I somehow stumbled upon vinyl for sale. I grabbed the Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits that I had before but then lost, but it wasn't enough to trigger the discount. The only other record that looked remotely interesting, was this - I'd never heard of the artist before but it got rave reviews, so I thought I'd give it a try. I don't have all the jazz words to describe it so I'm just going to transcribe the sticker and say - I agree with their assertions (except the "incredibly rare" bit, no idea if that's just marketing juice):

"Originally released in 1971, Joe McPhee's Nation Time has remained incredibly rare. James Brown groove filtered through Archie Shepp, a pivotal moment in the Free Jazz canon."

2021, reissue - UK, Matsuli Music Limited - Spirits rejoice, African spaces

Starting Friday off the right way. It’s like Grover Washington meets daft punk with some smooth jazz piano & sax and originally South African.

2020 - US & EU, Polydor, Interscope records - Lana Del Rey, NFR!

Wow, this album blows me away everytime I listen to it. Lana Del Rey flexes her vocal & musical talent from the first track all the way through. For me has to be one of my top albums of all time.

In terms of the pressing too early to tell some distortion on the left channel here and there (could be left over RCM fluid or dirt as am having issues with he vacuum) will have to give it another listen to be sure.

Should you listen to this? Most definitely yes, twice in fact.

Had a bit of a nineties solo rave tonight (after a bit of SAULT).  Four sources, no mixer so just switching and turning the amp volume up and down. Only me so it was a great set.  Finishing the evening with:

Orb’s Adventures In The Ultraworld

Original ‘Special Classical Pressing’ from the UK a few days before it was released (Simeon at Loading Bay made sure he got the copies in)

Perhaps the best ever mastered / produced album on vinyl. It sure blows me away every time.

The rain is coming in, the valves are glowing and the red wine is, of course, from Stellenbosch.

"The Last Waltz was a concert by the Canadian-American rock group The Band,
held on American Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1976,
at Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. "

I love music - analog and digital. Even listening to the Blues makes me happy. During the day I coach and counsel, after hours I indulge in my second passion - listening to vinyl and restoring turntables. Some I keep, some I sell...

Grooving to Miles tonight - starting with my favourite:

Miles Davis - A Tribute to Jack Johnson

Probably get a few others by Miles, Monk and Coltrane(s) out later.  This though, is the sound of a loose jam with tons of feeling.  Really captured the moment.  Great band, great individual playing, yet all just clicking into synch.  I don’t usually love jazz, but this is beyond.
