Anyone have an idea where I can get a pair of 6CG7 valves or failing that what an equivalent would be?

Thanks

Charles would probably know.

6CG7 is still being manufactured so available from the usual suspects overseas. 6CG7 is basically a 6SN7 in a 9 pin base. Substitutes are 6FQ7. 12AU7 has similar electrical specs but requires only half the heater current and has a completely different distortion profile - its not so good.

In there. What it actually does in there, you'll have to ask Spyderman. This supplier is out of stock.

Oh I see, web suggests it is simply a 6SN7 in a 9-pin tube body. Sure those that know better would confirm.

I see a lot of users opting for 7N7 tubes with socket converters to 6SN7 perhaps a converter socket could make any medium-mu double-triode work?

The 6CG7 is used in the Marantz 8B stereo tube amplifier.

The equivalent is the 6FQ7 valve. Some of the original ones are marked with both numbers.

I am not at all familiar with the re-issue ones and prefer the original ones.

Refer to the RCA Receiving Tube Manual 1964 regarding the 6FQ7/8FQ7 tube:
"Except for direct inter electrode capacitances, these types are identical with miniature type 6CG7."

I have 6FQ7 valves in stock

Received from Charles today. NOS and matched. For a while I thought it was going to be Sovtek from overseas with all the delays and hassles. Thanks Charles!
