Creaky earcup on Beyer 1770 PRO
« on: April 15, 2021, 01:19:25 PM »
I've been enjoying these headphones for a while now, but just noticed an annoying creak on the left earcup.

The outer cover of the earcup is slightly recessed into the main cup;  and if one presses lightly along the circumference of the cover it produces fairly loud creaky noise.
I imagine that there is some kind of sound-deadening material sandwiched between the cup and the cover and this allows movement which creates the racket!

I tried to pull the cover off using a glass sucker, but it is stuck solid.
The idea being that if I can remove the cover, extra adhesive can be added to stabilize assembly.

Any suggestions?

Strange, mine seems to be one plastic mould, not two separate bits. Unless I understand wrong, it might be an impact crack? The only way might be to access the outer cup "crack" is from the inside- stripping out the driver etc., then pressing it out and glueing?

There is definite movement btween the two components.
Sounds like hard foam / bubble wrap stuff in between.

The cups of the 1770/1990 are different compared to the 770/990.

Extremely useful:  Thank you.

First thing that I see are the clips that secure the cover to the cup.

No wonder I could not pull it free.

No Mat there are substantial differences, I will see if I can get the DT770 details on Monday.

Try as I may, part 20 will not separate from part 5.

Has anyone successfully removed the cover from the cup?

Just for my understanding- Do you mean part 165 does not want to seperate from part 5- the cup. Because it seem as if part 20 attaches to part 10, and part 10 to 165, and 165 attaches to 5? I have not detached it but can have a look at some point if it detaches on the 770 pro.

I think you are looking at the DT770 pic.  I have the DT1770.

Part 5 is the cup, part 20 is the outer cover with the DT1770 print.
