« on: March 18, 2021, 11:22:58 AM »
Does anyone know where I can get hold of a new set of these?

Seems most retailers don't have stock at the moment.
Try the agents, I've dealt directly with them previously for spares:

Alpha Technologies

Phone : +27 (0)21 300 1450 (Cape Town)
Email : info(at)alpha-tec.co.za

There is limited stock of 250 Ohm only in Jhb.  Contact Johann at js@AlphA-tec.co.za.

Note that Alphatech does not do business with end users except for spares.

There is a worldwide shortage of the DT series products

Interesting...@grumpybear to what do you ascribe the shortage?

I mean, I know these are popular but there has always been a plentiful supply.

Two reasons for the shortage
Firstly demand has increased with lockdown and work from home scenarios.
Secondly these are made in Germany where production has been badly affected by lockdowns and the factory cannot just ramp up production due to the high level of skilled worker input.

Thanks Gents

Seems as if I am sorted.
Planning on using these with an ifi Zen DAC as a secondary closed back system alongside my Audeze LCD2 and Deckard setup.

Would just like to chime in, I've gotten a few Byers directly from the Germany factory (DT770s/TYGR 300r's) for a significantly better price than locally. Was at my door within 10 days. PM me if you'd like any assistance with that. Otherwise, enjoy your headies!

i honestly should have done a price comparison before posting...

Going rate in SA is about R3,400 ex VAT for 770/990 Pro.

Note that the warranty on items bought outside of SA will not apply in SA and the unit would have to be returned to Beyer/Amazon etc for repair/replacement.
