Ifi for stax sr009s
« on: February 04, 2021, 09:54:28 AM »
I would like to know if any headphiers beleive the ifi esl (energiser) and ifi idsd pro (dac) is good enough for the stax sr009s? I took the leap last year and got the stax. I have heard good things about the woo/stax and lte(linear tube audio-z10e)/stax combo

The iESL is good, but requires input from a stereo speaker amp.
Always searching for that one more piece of gear.

I decided to keep it ifi and go for the pro Ican just to be told that it has been discontinued. they are building one last one for me. think of using my Krell evo402 to drive the esl :) havent even had the Stax baby running yet because of the amp situation

Wow that's summit-fi right there. I can't imagine having bought it a year ago and still not having had a chance to listen to them. How do you cope? Lol

Spent quite a bit of time swapping between hd800 and stax sr009s with ifi pro dsd and perreux speaker amp. Stax very quick on transients and incredible detail retrieval but lacking some warmth compared to hd800. Can i dare to say less bass? Enjoying both cans immensely. Considering what more refined amplifier/dac combo can bring to table. Possible dcs bartok, chord dave, woo audio….etc.  Receiving the ifi pro ican soon. Hope it will not be step backwards from a more powerful speaker amp as im adding some heavy to drive susvaras to mix soon. Any input will be appreciated.

Had a similar experience when comparing the SR009 with a Stax SRM 727 amp to the HD800 with what amp can't remember. The SR009 seems to sound best with the Headamp Blue Hawaii or Woo Audio WES.

In my experience dacs are important but amps make more sound difference.
