Advise on headphones
« on: January 07, 2021, 06:06:08 PM »
Hello all. I have been using a JBL 450. Want to upgrade to a headphone that will be a reasonable audiophile option. I see the PX 5 is going for around R5600 online. A bit out of my current budget of R4000.
Any suggestions or offers available for a new set around this price.
There is a PX 3 available older model. Just concerned that when I'm next to a person sound may carry as they are not over the ear. Any advise will be appreciated. PM welcome.
Thanks.

Do they need to be a wireless option?  For the money available a wired headphone will perform better.

Does not have to be wireless.
Good audio quality required.
I see there are specials on the PX 5 and the Sony 1000x4.
Just out of price range though.

Have a look at Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro.  Over ear, closed back, made in Germany, excellent audio quality and in your price range.

Hi There,

What does the rest of your setup look like?
Do you have a dedicated Headphone Amp?

Some wired headphones will require an amp to get the most out of them.

What's the main use of your headphones...are you looking for a portable solution? Wireless may be better in this instance.

You can pick up a Sony 1000MX3 now for a good price. There are quite good!

Sold my newish PX5 for ~R3,7k

They were awesome quality, but the clamping power a bit too strong for most, ie. not the most comfy for longer listening sessions. Anyways, I had a different purpose then (work, conference calls, needed something a lot lighter ito weight/clamping force).

If I had to choose though Id stretch to PX7 overear.
