Back to the hypothetical 150w x2 and 65w x3 Receiver - I've been pondering, but maybe there is method in the madness: I would imagine balancing all the channels would be a lot easier if all the amps are the same - both tonally and in terms of power.
I know not what cost of the amplifier circuits are relative to the total costs, but perhaps this route is chosen because it is simpler/more reliable(/perhaps even cheaper) to throw the same amp at all channels knowing all but 2 will never be used fully utilised? Anyone with production electronic experience that might be able to comment?
