Depends on your appetite for spending $$$. IMO the best bang for the buck is Pi2AES: http://www.pi2design.com/store/p19/PI2AES_-_PRO_AUDIO_SHIELD.html. I wouldn't bother with USB decrapifiers anymore, go i2s for the best interface you can get.

@GoodEnoughGear
Nice find, can't seem to find any mention of using with a reclocker like the ALLO KALI? Assume no need or benefit?

The Pi2AES makes a rpi4 a compelling competitor feature and price wise.

Engineered.ch has started a new company named WATTSON AUDIO : https://en.wattson.audio/ offering 2 enhanced versions of the eRED-DOCK with AES/SPDIF (digital) or DAC/RCA (analog) outputs but at a staggering 1250 Euro each.

This gives TIDAL/Qobus streaming and ROON certification in progress with a ios APP to the UPnP/DLNA endpoins (analog/digital)

audio render modules uses a TI/omap CPU running at low voltage/power and best in class audio isolation transformers.

Looks like it would be incompatible, but not sure it's even of benefit. TBH I didn't even realize a i2s reclocker was a thing. My impulse is to lump in the nervosa category. Plenty Pi2AES happy users.

Thank you. I have a spare Raspberry Pi lying around so I definitely have my next project lined up.
