Simplex Radio in Durban is having a special on the Sony BDP-S380 Blu Ray player for R999.99. Saw the ad in last nights Daily News.

^^^ That's pretty old to be honest. Not knowing what's wrong (and that CDP being quite nasty, likely needing fresh optics), the current price is probably already too high. R7000 replacement my ass.
Resistance is not futile; it is voltage divided by current (R=V/I)

Here are some interesting old speakers for R450. I can't find any reference to them on the internet, and the tweeter intrigues me - odd woofer too.

Won't someone in Cape Town please go and have a look ;)

Did anyone check out the Sansui speaker.

I was tempted, thinking they might be rare vintage full rangers.  But they also look like cheap coax drivers that need extra tweeters to sound OK.

Nothing on the web - these could be local SA made boxes for an old music centre.

Ja - that coax looks suspiciously like one of those cheap in car units. Now if it were a Lowther...

My very first micro has similar tweeters. The marketing blurb called them "acoustic lens tweeters". Don't know if that helps.

It's a Panasonic. Still working faultlessly after 10 years.

Haven't check out this particular set, but I do know these, and yes, they are off a cheap music centre.

Like the rubbish speakers Pioneer flogged with their Rondo 3000, these are junk. Cheap chipboard cabs, no bracing, a screw-on back panel that rattles and vibrates like it's paid to do so, and rubbish drivers with a single cap to the tweeter as cross-over.

Don't bother.

Those are original drivers btw. I assume they used a woofer with a wizzer cone to try and fill in the mid-range that the cheap tweeter couldn't provide.
Sometimes I drink a glass of water... Just to surprise my liver.
