Airplay on Yamaha AV receiver using repeater

Hi, I have Yamaha A830 receiver.  Connecting an Ethernet cable to my router allows Airplay and internet radio to work perfectly.  However, this is not a solution for me, I need it to be wireless. So i have a Wi-fi extender/repeater, which I plugged into the receiver, and configured it to read my router's wi-fi signal.  Internet radio now works perfectly, but for some reason, airplay doesn't.  Has anyone else tried succeeded with such a solution?
