HDMI ARC unreliable, or is it just me...
« on: August 25, 2020, 09:51:13 PM »
Hi,

I hooked up my new Denon X4400H to my Samsung TV using the HDMI3 input labelled ARC.

As installed, the ARC worked as expected - TV audio sent through to the the receiver - the receiver automatically switched to TV Audio.

But I went away a couple of days and on coming back no more audio from the TV.  It doesn't switch, and if I try to select the AVR speakers via the setup menu it just sits saying "Connecting Anynet+" to no effect.

Googling around its "different HDMI cable" - mine is new and was working...  Or "unplug tv and receiver for (5 mins|10 mins|half hour|a weekend|...)" to "reset" things.  I'll try that tonight but that's not a fix that makes me feel very confident...

Does anyone have advice for me?

Thanks

I am having a similar issue with my Samsung UHD TV and Marantz AVR......very frustrating. I need to get an optical cable to try and see if it is better.

Thanks for the replies.

I can say that I did the unplug thing and its different now but still not working.  Now my TV is willing to switch the audio to HDMI receiver but I hear nothing.

I wanted to use ARC since I understand TOSLINK can only do stereo.  I will try with TOSLINK though since at least it will work.  The integration is an issue since my wife

Seems that the HDMI-CEC stuff works - IE receiver goes off when you turn the TV off.  But the audio (that was working) seems stubbonly broken.

I avoid using HDMI ARC with my AVR X4400H, it is very annoying.

Yes, I got it to work after a terrific fiddle with a DENON AVR, but there are easier ways, so have not bothered again
