15m HDMI 2.0 cable with small connectors
« on: August 19, 2020, 03:01:22 PM »
I need to connect my AVR to my TV with a 15m cable but unfortunately it has to go through 20mm conduit (I know ). Does anyone know where I can get a long HDMI 2.0 (18gbps) cable with slim connectors?

I currently have an HDMI 1.4 cable with slim connectors in there but it canít do 4K HDR.

Rather use an HDMI over CAT extender. Makes it a lot easier...
Thanks

I did look into those but the 4K ones (HDBaseT) are expensive!

You can trim the edges of the HDMI and it will reduce this to 19mm (or so).   It might fit through the conduit

But - no bends, or else very gradual ones
Push a fish tape through first and attach the HDMI cable so the fish tape connector passes under the wide side
Apply some washing up liquid to the sides of the plug and pull very slowly

It is fiddly.  I have done it, but with difficulty

Is there no way to use a 25mm conduit?

15m is too long a length for reliable transmission over a standard HDMI cable. If not HDbaseT, then a hybrid fibre-optic HDMI cable.

Iíve scoured the internet and these are the best options I can find in SA.

1. https://www.audicoonline.co.za/DTech-Hdmi_2-Over-Fibre

Expensive but it will work

2. https://m.takealot.com/baobab-hdmi-2-0-fibre-cable-20m/PLID53638941

Cheaper but could be a tight squeeze.

I bought a 20m Baobab fiber HDMI cable from Takealot. Great cable if it fits your conduit. THe HDMI connectors are quite slim.

Thought I should close the loop on this. The 20m Baobab fiber HDMI cable fits with a little bit of space to spare and carries a 4K 60hz Dolby Vision signal perfectly.

fiber HDMI works a treat and a must for any 4k projector also.
