happy birthday Wolla  and Eric too

If i was selecting my last meal it would have to be a massive plateful of Veg Biryani (since i'm vegetarian) chockfull of large new (soft cooker) potatos and accompanied by Dhall, with sides of Raitha, Sambals, and pickled Beetroot salad washed down with a 2.25 litre Coke Zero (has to be zero cos i'm diabetic) ..... this has to be my favorite food but haven't had it for around 6 months cos of the lockdown

I think if its your last meal you can go with the proper Coke.

I tried the proper coke recently and to me it tastes like crap because I have been having the sugarless stuff for around 10 years or so ..... So basically I would still stick to the sugarless stuff cos it's more palatable to me  :nfi:

Two slices of toasted thick cut sourdough bread. Layered with the following:

- Both buttered with the real stuff (not margarine)
- Generously spread apricot jam
- Crispy bacon
- Fried egg (yolk must be soft)
- Covered with grates cheese

On the side:
- 30cm boerewors (braai'd over the coals, not cooked in a pan)
- Two Karoo braai skaaptjops with proper crispy fat
- Mrs Ball's Chutney

To drink:
Big glass of double KWV brandy and Coke

For desert:
Bread and butter pudding and home made vanilla custard

Let us not under estimate the beauty of a PROPER toasted sandwich. Butter on the outside, pan fried until crispy brown, cheese melting on the inside. So many varieties to choose from. Cheese, lettuce and Hellman’s, yes, lettuce, hot.

This thread should come with a warning attached: Do not read if hungry  :giggle:

For me it would be a Sunday roast, with gammon, beef and lamb. Yellow rice and gravy, roast potatoes, cauliflower with cheese sauce, mashed beans/onions/potato, cabbage/onion/potato and sweet pumpkin.

Desert would be malva pudding with real ice cream and custard.

Peppermint Crisp Pudding (From Checkers)
Coronation Salad (From Checkers)
Kiri Cream cheese and Cream Crackers
Salmon Sashami
Ola Magnum Ice-cream
Royal Creams
Martini Rosso

And for those wondering, yes I'll make sure I get thru it all !

Now THAT sounds proper!! I'll just swap the brandy for nice bottle of red wine!

Cousin (74) took part in the Oxford covid-19 trials at the Leicester Royal Infirmary recently (she has completed it and is back home, feeling confident that she is fairly immune from covid-19)

The first 10 days they were locked inside the hospital as tests were taken 5 times a day

Imagine her horror when the duty nurse came into the ward (4 people, all isolated) and said "Here is the menu, tell me what would you like for your last meal?"   She had to think a bit before deciding this was a bit of black humour

The food was indifferent.  I told her this is not a 5-star hotel, but NHS food, not known for its gourmet quality
