Is it normal for these things to make a bit of a noise? Sort of sounds like there is a fan running inside or something? It's audible at 3.5m when I have the tv down low so not sure if that's par for the course? if I put the PVR onto standby via the remote, most of the noise goes away but at close distance, there is still something happening inside, more of a constant type of noise if that makes sense!
