As per the title. Some films have amazing soundtracks when you are watching the film, but when you try and listen to the music "as music" it is a lot of 'meh' and ambient waffle without the pictures to go with it.
However, some film soundtracks can stand on their own as music. Here are two:
1. The Fountain by Clint Mansell: each track builds on a musical theme like a symphony and then it all comes together in a powerful climax (not like that).
2. Tron: Legacy by Daft Punk: like a studio album with lots of good musical tracks and a great synthesis of electronic and orchestral elements.
