Rain 5G router settings
« on: March 14, 2020, 06:26:55 PM »
Good evening.

I would like to ask a few questions about router settings for the Rain 5G Huawei CPE router.

It was a purchase as a backup for when Telkom removes copper and no installer yet in my area for fibre...

I  am happy overall but need clarity on a few issues.  Been spoiled with smooth running VDSL so far for several years so rather new 5G..

1) is it wise to disable 4G and how to do so?
2) Any settings to change for torrenting as UDP trackers do not connect.

Any help appreciated.

Rain doesn't install any back up power in their transmission stations, no power = no signal. They have few 5G dedicated sites scattered across South Africa with the plan to Rollout a bunch more by the end of the year.

I would suggest keeping the 4G enabled as if a 5G tower goes down due to a power outage you could still (possibly) receive 4G signals from the other towers nearby that they have roaming agreements with.

Hope this helps regarding the 4G, as for the other question I'm not too sure.

Regards,
Josh.

Maybe try the MyBroadband - Rain LTE-A forum. There is likely many more 5G subscribers present.
