A question about transmission line (T L) loudspeakers.

I have had a look at designs in general, know the principles, have books etc. It is the only cabinet design to lower the driver resonance and as such sounds promising. But going to below 40 Hz the cabinet gets large, and one I have tried was a resounding failure. Resonance ended up at 55Hz instead of the calculated about 35 Hz. The sound wave propagation through the cabinet and tunnel stuffing has quite a lot to do with it, but calculating according to predicted reduced velocity (thus a shorter pipe), does not seem to work out.

To those with experience: Roughly where (size-wise) would a successful t
l cabinet lie compared to say a ported design? What are the experiences of others?

Thanks!
