A German publisher called Turbine Media has been releasing TV series box sets which are in Standard definition, but on Blu-ray discs. This might seem a bit strange, but actually makes a lot of sense in terms of cost saving. The biggest advantage being that the numbr of discs needed for a complete series is greatly reduced. Entire seasons of one hour episodes (15-20 episodes) fit on a single disc. Also, in most cases the original DVD releases were remastered and cleaned up hence the is noe need for re-mastering or re-scanning the original film stock.  Another big advantage (for me) is the space saving. For example The entire 9 season run of ]Little House on The Prairie (nostalgia overload for some of us) fits on just ten discs.

Obviously due to the resolution, you wouldn't want to watch thos on your 120 inch home cinema, but they look really good playing on a smaller screen in the bedroom.
