Advice on headphones for gift
« on: February 12, 2020, 05:11:25 PM »
Looking to get my cousin a pair of headphones he can use to listen to music with ( mainly Rock and Metal ), Don't have a huge budget but have a few solid picks I'm just trying to figure out which would be best for his use case, he will not be using an amp but will be using his phone or MacBook when listening. (Think closed-back would be best )

Options are :

  • AKG K92
  • Presonus HD7
  • Fostex TH-7
  • Alesis SRP100
  • Audio Technica ATH-M20x
  • Sennheiser HD200( a bit more pricey than the others )

Looking for the one that is the best all-rounder[/list]

Under R1000 nothing touches the Sennheiser HD-202 in my humble opinion, especially for Rock/Metal.
Finding a pair is a challenge though. Current model is HD-202 II.

Not sure about this seller: https://www.manicaa.com/catalog/product/view/id/1225562/

Tyll approves (FWIW): https://www.innerfidelity.com/content/sennheiser-hd-202-inexpensive-headphones-done-really-well
