TDL 404's
« on: December 12, 2019, 10:45:43 AM »
I am not sure what qualifies as vintage, but I picked up a set of these yesterday afternoon.
They are probably +/- 30 years old I guess, as I had a set of 202's in the early 90's.

These are not proper TL's, because I noticed 2 smallish ports at the rear; one about 1/2 way and the other right at the bottom, below the binding posts.

They are extremely heavy and well built in my opinion.
So after setting up, I sat back and pressed play on Lenord Cohen's "Boogie Street".

Boom!! Mind blown!!  :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :groovy:
Clear, not bright; mellow, but letting you know they mean business; tight, precise and for 30 year old models, quick bass.

Needless to say, I have removed the Klipsch R28F's from the listening area.

Old Skool still floats my boat.  :winkwink:

Anything 30 years or older in the motor vehicle world is classified as "vintage"....I would consider the same for Audio equipment.

I need assistance...

I am battling to find a dust cap for the woofer; unfortunately Willie from Universal Speakers cannot assist.

I can get much larger ones, but then I will have to replace all of the drivers' caps; but will it make a difference to the character of the woofer if I fit larger dust caps?

All expert device appreciated.

Please fit the same size dust caps. Many times midrange response has been hacked with inexpert repairs.
