ECO FIBER - POOL FILTER ALTERNATIVE TO SAND

(1/8) > >>

Hey all

I see there is this new Fiber product as an alternate to the sand in the pool filter. Supposed to save on back washes and is more efficient than the sand as per below link

Has anyone tried this?

Seems like a lot more maintenance involved with removal of media to clean. I went for Pratley's Clinobrite last time and it does seem to have noticably lowered water odour.

i guess maintenance would depend on the size of the pool and conditions of the pool.

THey say cleaning of the media can be anywhere 3 - 12 months, pool sand should be changed approx every 2 years.

With this they say no backwasing required so saving on the water front for sure which in my mind in our current state with water issues is very important

Apologies for hijack but had a backwash tank fitted next to my pump. Basically you backwash into it and wait for gunk to settle and drain top part back into swimming pool. Then drain tyhe last bit of gunk into garden/bucket.

So you have to clean that pile of sponges one by one? Seems like too much work to me. Might as well keep the sand.

My pool (6x3) is not close to any water drainage so I cannot backwash. I use two Badu Ecowise 1 filters for the pool and even they require fairly constant maintenance. Rather consider that, as you only have two cartridges to hose off every second week or so, depending on the amount of debris in your pool. They cost about R500 a piece (the filter cartridges) and the current pair has been in for about two years. They are very robust.

Sorry, but that just looks messy!

I have two of these and they work very well....
