I can feel the dismay in that image - it always happens when you lose focus and least expect it...

You can try to use something like this:

Always buy the best tap you can find - the quality varies a lot - and a broken tap has a negative value far exceeding the cost of a decent tap.

Even if not the best, good / decent, not anything at Makro / Builders Warehouse and so on.  Action Bolt - Kennedy Sherwood brand.  (Jhb/Cape Town/Durban.)  Not too expensive, for an entire set. (Although I suppose it would be about double what I paid, few years ago.)  Or any specialist tool supplier.  And cutting fluid.  Even paraffin or something would've been better than nothing.

I used a Somta tap (R330 for the 3 M5 taps), which is pricy considering we talking only M5.

Had more to do with my haste and lack of tapping fluid...hindsight...

I was going to look at the Cromwell catalog to find the set I got, but google shows that Takealot is selling them. ^^!
https://www.takealot.com/sherwood-set-of-28-hss-metric-drills-taps/PLID55070007
That set has drills too but I suppose they have sets with taps only.  Probably not individual taps.  But Takealot might be more convenient for you than going to Action Bolt or whatever.

(Cromwell being the tool company responsible for Kennedy brand, based in UK, sold in SA by Action Bolt.  ...I think Action Bolt also gets Dormer, but then you're looking at a couple thousand for a tap.)

PS: ok, saw your last.  Somta rings a bell, vaguely....? I dunno.  PPS: R330 for 3? That's cheap. Remember the Rand.

Absolutely astonishing Nicholas . Topfast Engineering Supplies in Paarden Eiland may have the quality tools you're looking for .
