My local Hospice shop had nothing:  The search continues.

This is a very old laptop, so not keen on shelling out for the whole charger.

On Facebook Marketplace and then Cape Town there are many many many ... all about R150 range.

Yep, I am probably better off buying a charger for R150 than spending loads of time and petrol money searching for the elusive R10 plug.

@Crankshaft give Bluetech a call in Bellville. They stock second hand Laptop stuff. You will find something there.

Did you give this guys a call @Crankshaft ?

Just called them.

Seem very helpful, but I will have to drive out to Bellville when I next get the chance.

Was given an old HP laptop to fix and the PSU socket in the laptop was damaged

Made up a short flying lead with a standard female DC power connector on it and soldered this to the circuit board.    The customer's PSU was ok, just physical damage.  Attached a male socket to this

This fixed it.  CCTV accessory places sell them.  Under R10 each and the plug is polarised and marked

I was actually wanting to suggest the same.

It had also occurred to me to have a fly-lead, but will leave it as the final resort as the laptop will have to be opened operated on.  Well within my capabilities - just trying to keep it simple.

Check out Yebo Electronics or give them a call. I visited their Bellville branch about 2 weeks ago and they had plenty of barrel DC connectors and adapters. A good chance they'll have a 4.8mm one for you.

I have still not managed to find a 4.8mm connector.  Can't get my mind around the possibility that I may have to buy a complete charger!

Here's another plug requirement:

I want to make a battery PSU for a DELL laptop - it uses a large diametre barrel plug with a centre pin:

Any ideas where I may find such a connector?
