TEAC A-3340 does not want to play or record
« on: August 26, 2019, 10:18:21 AM »
Hi All

I have this reel-to-reel that seems to be in good condition, except the play/record function does not engage.

Has anyone got experience with this model?

Before I dug deeper I took some photos.

This is a A-3440 model. Very nice 4 tracks deck!

Look I’m working on a wild assumption here as I have never personally seen or worked on one of these, but if that round silvery thing below the black transformer is the capstan motor, there should be a belt between that and the capstan slightly below and to the left of the “assumed” motor..??

The capstan is the circular item which you only see the top half of, just above the control signal socket on the back panel, greyish color with a couple of large holes machined in it..

If that is broken or missing maybe the lack of drive is your issue here..

Yep, your belt is missing, just looked at a tear down video for that machine and you need a belt exactly as I mention above, no belt, no function..

See below image, you can clearly see the belt..
