What HP for podcast all day
« on: August 08, 2019, 09:17:43 AM »
My wife works from home as a graphic designer. She listens to podcasts as she works, and has been using her apple earpods for some time. She has developed some discomfort, and would like to get on-ear phones. She has tried my Yamaha PHP500 over ear, but find them too heavy, and uncomfortable.
The budget is approximately R2k. What are good quality on ear monitors to consider at that price range? Brands to look at, or avoid?

I was extremely fortunate to buy 2 sets of Bose OE2 when they were on crazy sale many years ago.
My daughter uses them when she practices piano and that can be quite a few hours sometimes.
In her words - if they were any lighter or more comfortable they would be air.
For me, they were the only HPs that I could wear the whole day at the office without feeling the earlobes pressure pain.

Not on-ear but more comfortable than just about any on-ear (especially for female ears...). Superb for voice. Accurate for music. Indestructible. Cheap.

The missus decided on her headphones and bought the cheaper Beyerdynamic DTX350M from Takealongtime. Iím not a headphone freak, and I have no idea what to expect from the top stuff. I own and regularly use Yamaha PHP500s, though not for listening to music, but gaming on my phone.
I was SO surprised by the sound quality of those cheap Beyerdynamic headphones. In my opinion, they are way better in terms of accuracy and tone than the Yamaha. The Yamaha have more bass, and can play way loader, but for background darkness, spacial accuracy, and truth, I am gobsmacked.
The frame is cheap and flimsy, and they are by no means pretty to look at, but at R650 (was on special) or thereabouts itís an absolute bargain for mature listeners.
