This then would make the case not to touch Levinson products with a barge-pole.

I must agree, not a good PR for Mark Levinson. I have never owned any of their products, but after reading all this from a high-end brand, I would be very reluctant to buy into their brand/price. However, if I compare this to many car companies, they do not generally sell parts for 30-year-old cars either and that is commonly accepted... so I suppose it is has a lot to do with perception. Not what I expected from ML.

30 years is too long.  Maybe with a small private company.

What nonsense is being smoked here
Its like looking for a floppy disk drive then complaining that its BAD PR for DELL or HP  . A lot of Integrated circuits are obsolete .  Are you gonna blame a manufacturer for using A PCM63 Chip ?

Yup. Better stick your barge pole somewhere else. Mark Levinson stuff is for fools.

Well, lets be fair, ML has always sounded great, their stuff is high quality, but one has to be careful if support is going to be a problem in the long run. The issue is that there are a lot of options at the same price.

Long run is relative. We are talking 30 years here.

Hell  modern AVR become obsolete after 5 years as new formats are standardized.

Plus you can hardly replace components anymore .

What you say is true. Not so sure how the likes of a 20 year warranty by Bryston stacks up in reality. I doubt though that if one buys Constellation, Burmester or Soulution they would easily turn you away. I think there is a case to be made with manufacturers to open source their designs once they stop supporting them.
