As per the heading, I have an HP desktop and laptop, both at least 5, 6 years old. Desktop has 4GB RAM and I think two free slots for more. Both machines have become a tad more sluggish over recent years what with Win 10 and its gazillion updates, etc.

Was wondering if it might help if I increased the amount of RAM available (if it's still available for these machines at the rate stuff gets old...). I remember it back just after the wheel got invented, that extra RAM used to help speed up your PC. Not sure if that line of thought is even valid even more?
