12V 6A Linear power Supplies Import
« on: March 13, 2019, 10:01:59 AM »
Would anybody else be interested in purchasing via import a 12V 6A Linear Power Supply as shown below :

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/GZLOZONE-HIFI-100VA-12V-6-5A-Ultra-Low-Noise-LPS-HI-END-Linear-Power-Supply-for/32959599487.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.190.37dd26443pxtz4&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_10_10065_10068_319_10059_10884_317_10887_10696_321_322_10084_453_10083_454_10103_10618_10307_537_536_10902,searchweb201603_35,ppcSwitch_0&algo_expid=94687c63-fd94-4bef-939f-285adae4c26b-28&algo_pvid=94687c63-fd94-4bef-939f-285adae4c26b&transAbTest=ae803_5

I got a landed price Cape Town, including VAT from Scott for about R4,430 exchange rate dependent at time of purchase.

With the proliferation of many headphone amps, dacs, etc using these, maybe a group buy can be considered, any interested?

As can be seen these units can be tailor made to your voltage/amps requirements and even cater for multiple outputs.

Would like to finalise 1st to 2nd week April latest if anyone else interested.

I will be using mine on an Pathos Aurium headphone amplifier which comes with a 12v 4.17A switching supply. The HDPLEX and SBooster supplies are way too expensive to consider.

That looks really nice, I like the case too.

I am keen, but not at the price quoted here. I don't know who Scott is, but to me, the price seems expensive.
Cost $110 - let's say that converts to R1576
SARS duties @ 10% according to their schedule R157
VAT R260
Shipping Aramex @ 6kg R1354
Total landed cost R3347

I've used quite a number of different PSU's with headphone amps, DACs etc and to be very honest, the very minimal improvement in background noise and "definition" wasn't worth the cost.
Yes it looked great, but I really think the perceived "improvement" in each case may well have been expectation bias on my part.

Not wanting to dissuade you, and YMM well V, but I would advise trying before buying if at all possible.
Since I have the opportunity (thanks again Allan) I am going to use a LPSU of my own with the Aurium and will report back ASAP.

It should really depend on the design of the target device and how well it deals with power supply deficiencies. Background noise is highly unlikely to change in any different in all but the most rubbish designs or perhaps those with little feedback; it's more issues like distortion, dynamics, soundstage etc. that I would expect to improve.

So here's the latest chapter in the ongoing power supply saga - picked up one of these on the weekend:

Supplying AC power to my HQ-1 headphone amp and Benchmark DAC1 for now.
I will report back with impressions as to efficacy in a separate thread.
